The traditional educational system in Curaçao (Caribbean) has been evolving to mirror the educational system in the Netherlands (Europe). Given the cultural and geo-economic differences, the children of Curaçao finish their high school education with a skill set that doesn’t necessarily equip them to use their talents optimally to achieve success.
Islandessa Foundation is working in Curaçao to change this. Islandessa is introducing changes to the educational system, by supplementing the traditional system with techniques from the Positive Psychology field: Positive Education. Positive Education emphasizes the discovery of what makes each child happy, and fostering their talents towards building skills in the subjects that motivates them and makes them happy.
Islandessa is presently preparing a Positive Education program with various scholars from the Netherlands, so that they can start teaching this to all the high school teachers on the island. With this program, the teachers will be much better equipped with tools and techniques to better evolve the children’s natural talents into skill sets and an education that gives them the best shot of a fulfilling career.
H4C is helping Islandessa in the following ways …
- In March 2019, Islandessa will hold a big charity event to generate funds to cover the costs of introducing Positive Psychology into the educational system. On international woman’s day, Islandessa is bringing Valerie Burton, a renown Life Coach, Motivational Speaker, and Strategist, to speak to prominent women of corporate Curacao. H4C is one of the event sponsors, covering the costs associated with executing this event.
